The Story

Some projects are simply more personal than others, and Old Saulty is one of them. This 1956 Thompson boat was a true labor of love, brought back to life by Andrea’s husband, Jonathon Dussault. When he found it, the boat had seen better days, but much of what made him special was still there. Original woodwork and many of the boat’s original bones were carefully preserved as Jonathon began the painstaking process of restoring every inch by hand. Each piece of wood was stripped and sanded back to its original beauty, then repaired, replaced where necessary, refinished, varnished, and painted. Thoughtful updates were made in order to safely enjoy him today, while honoring the craftsmanship and character of 1956.

Our design team introduced a fresh palette of crisp white, soft blue, warm wood, and classic black, including a custom black and white striped bimini top. New custom bench cushions, pillows, and tailored details softened the interior while allowing the woodwork to remain the star. Designed for leisurely evenings on the Lowcountry creeks, we considered every detail about how the boat would be used. A custom wood table was designed around wine glasses and an inevitable charcuterie board. Today, Old Saulty cruises the creeks of Daniel Island at an unhurried pace while his guests gather for a glass of wine while watching the marsh drift by.
