Install Day: What Actually Happens Behind the Curtain
From the outside, it can look a little like design magic. Behind the curtain, it is a very carefully orchestrated day.

Install Day(s) is one of our favorite phases of a project. It is the moment when months of drawings, selections, orders, site visits, and decisions finally come together. Furniture arrives. Rugs are rolled out. Drapery goes up. Accessories find their homes. And slowly, the rooms we have been imagining for months start to feel real.
From the outside, it can look a little like design magic. Behind the curtain? It is actually a very carefully orchestrated day.
It Starts Long Before Install Day
A successful installation is really the result of everything that happens before it. Furniture has been ordered and tracked. Deliveries have been coordinated. Pieces have been received, inspected, and stored. Rooms have been measured. Floor plans have been finalized. Window treatments, art, and accessories have all been considered well before the truck ever pulls up.
We are thinking through where each piece will go, how the rooms will flow, and what needs to happen in what order so installation day can run as smoothly as possible. The goal is for the finished home to feel effortless, even if getting it there was anything but.
Then Comes the Organized Chaos
Install day is busy! There are delivery teams moving furniture, designers directing placement, rugs being centered, beds being made, lamps being assembled, art being hung, and accessories spread across every available surface.
And yes, there is usually a lot of measuring, moving something two inches to the left, stepping back, and moving it another inch. Because this is where the details we have been planning on paper finally meet the actual room.
Scale feels different in person. A chair may need a slight adjustment. An accessory we planned for one room may suddenly be perfect somewhere else. Those little shifts are part of the process and often what makes the finished space feel so natural.
There Is Plenty of Problem-Solving, Too
No matter how much planning goes into a project, install day almost always has a surprise or two. A piece may arrive with damage. Something may not fit through a doorway quite the way everyone expected. A lamp may need a different shade. Art may look better six inches higher than originally planned. This is where experience really matters.
Our clients do not need to be managing those moments. We are there to make decisions, coordinate with the right people, and find the solution so the day keeps moving forward. Sometimes the best part of full-service design is simply not knowing about every little problem that had to be solved along the way.
And Finally, We Style
Once the larger pieces are in place, the house starts to become a home. Books are stacked. Pillows are fluffed. Objects are layered. Coffee tables are styled. Beds get that final finishing touch. These may seem like small details, but they are often what give a room its personality.
Styling is not about filling every surface. We are always editing, adding something, taking something away, moving it to another room, until everything feels collected rather than staged. And then there is that moment when we finally step back and say, Okay. Itβs ready.
The Part You Get to See
By the time our clients walk through the door, our hope is that they do not see the logistics, the boxes, the measuring tape, or the hundred tiny decisions that happened earlier in the day.
They simply see home.
That is what makes install day so special for us. It is the culmination of everything that came before it, but it is also the beginning of something new, the point where a beautifully designed space becomes the place where everyday life actually happens.
